Map of Beat 2

The fishing changes from right bank to left bank once you cross over Erriff Bridge. Almost the entire stretch of this water is fished from the right bank. This beat fishes a maximum of three rods and is one of the longest beats on the river. It can be accessed by road from 3 car parking areas.

It is characterised by long deep pools from the top of the beat to the Quarry Pool situated in the middle of the beat. The gradient then changes from this point downstream to Erriff bridge and there is much more running water. The stretch has three named pools - McGuire's Pool, the Road Reach and the Dog Pool and this stretch continues right down to where Finnegan's Stream joins the main river on the right bank. It is not the most interesting stretch of fly water as much of it is relatively featureless apart from the Dog Pool - nevertheless it is excellent deep holding water that fishes best on either a falling spate or in a good upstream wind. In the past it held good stocks of decent sized Sea Trout and there was good night fishing for Sea Trout there.

The Quarry Pool is undoubtedly the most popular pool on the beat and it holds both Spring salmon and grilse throughout the season. It can be fished from Finnegan's Stream right to the glide at the bottom of the pool. There are two faster stretches of water downstream in the Quarry Pool Run and The Bend and they do produce fish given the right conditions. There are several small pools further downstream towards the Weir Pool and they can produce grilse when the river is fining down after a spate.

Deadman's Pool is the next major pool and it is a good deep holding pool for grilse. It fishes best from the right bank - fish are normally taken at the run at the head of the pool and at the broad glide area at the tail of the pool. There are three pools downstream to Erriff Bridge namely the Blue Slate Pool, The Egg Timer and The Oak Tree Pool - all these pools fish best for grilse on a falling spate and are probably best accessed from the left bank from the bridge upstream. It is possible to cross the river at the bottom of Deadman's but only in low water conditions.
